Smokeybrown cockroach - Periplaneta fuliginosa

Smokeybrown cockroach - Periplaneta fuliginosa
Carlsbad, San Diego County, California, USA
September 10, 2008
Size: 2"-2.5"

Interesting.
At that size it is not likely a wood cockroach. Reminds me of a "smoky brown" cockroach, but was unaware they occurred in California....Puzzling.

Smokybrown cockroach
I agree, with that pronotum it must be Periplaneta fuliginosa. I just pulled a reference that states that they have been found in central and southern California: Appel, Rust, and Reierson. 1990. The smokybrown cockroach: a potential new cockroach pest now in California. Calif. Agric. 44(4):23–24.

Thank you.
Just terrific, eh?:-)
